What to Wear to Your Boise Photoshoot

"What should I wear?" Ahh the age old question. Let's break it down, outfits for your engagement session in Boise!

Think of your shoot like a work of art. What you wear sets the tone, and it can totally shape the feel of your photos. Our biggest piece of advice? Choose outfits that feel like you. If you wouldn’t wear it out to dinner or as a cute adventure fit, don't try to make it work just for photos.

Start With Your Closet

You don’t need to run out and buy something brand new (in fact, we advocate that you don't!). First, check what you already own and love. If you do want something new, consider making outfit shopping a cute date at a Boise thrift store. If you do grab a new piece, wear it a few times beforehand to make sure you feel good in it.

What to Look For

We love outfits that move with you—think flowy dresses, soft layers, oversized sweaters, textured fabrics. Stay away from stiff, formal, or business wear. The goal is to look relaxed, timeless, and totally yourself.

Stick with neutral and earthy tones that blend well with Boise’s natural beauty—think soft beiges, olives, and warm browns. If you want a pop of color, just keep it simple and let it shine on its own.

A minimalist color palette featuring two rows of soft neutral tones and muted pops of color including browns, greens, and blues.

For Her

Some go-to favorites: flowy dresses, jumpsuits, oversized sweaters, or denim paired with a crop top or tank. I'm also obsessed with the mini white dress trend for engagement photos, or frankly, anything that's white. Add leather boots, classic sneakers, or go barefoot if we’re shooting somewhere wild and free. Hair that moves is gorgeous, let it down unless wind is going to be a bother.

For Him

You can’t go wrong with a soft button-up, henley, flannel, or a textured sweater. Pair it with chinos, khakis, or jeans, and finish the look with leather shoes or timeless sneakers. Keep hair natural and styled with a light touch.

Think Season + Location

Your location in Boise and the season will help guide your outfit colors and textures. Winter in Idaho means cool tones and snow—add some bold texture or color for contrast. In summer, soft neutrals or whites pop beautifully against golden fields and sunshine, while blues and greens will blend in beautifully with the spring landscape.

Final Tips

  • Bring a couple outfit options, we don't mind an outfit change
  • Let us know what you’re planning so we can help
  • Most importantly, don’t stress. It's supposed to be fun <3
